Woodworking question?

Hi I know this is a silly question but one i need to know :). I was wondering the best way to screw to pieces of wood together. I have a power drill with all the bits and screws i need. Screws i will be using are 10 and 3 1/2. Any tips or pointers would be appericated thank you.
