haha i made one out of origami. i made an origami balloon, then i made an origami cup, attached them with string, and done!

Dan, Yes I think your right. This was my first one and
I did see some online after I made it like you our describing.

Thanks,
Carl

@haydenHD i do agree with you though that it should have been cupped out a bit more, what i do is make the hole deep but the diameter of the hole just less than the diameter of the ball, thanks Carl,
Dan

Man i had forgotten just how much i uswed to enjoy that liottle toy. Going to go make sonme tomorrow for my grand kids, many thanks

Yes, the old toys are still the best toys. My kids are enjoying the one I made as well.

Thanks,
Carl

No this is the first one for me. Thanks for the idea.

Carl

My mother- in-law got my kids one and it looked like this. I did see one with a much deeper cup online. Are the tearouts bad and what type of wood is it? Maple is very hard and seems to cut much better than a lot of woods.

Thanks,
Carl

Hey Carl, Interesting spin on that project. I think that’s the first one I’ve seen done with a large ball and a shallow cup. Definately more challenging to the user. Another great video. Noticed that you cut uphill and downhill with the gouge, if I try cutting uphill it always ends up with tearout and a poor finish off the tool. Any thoughts?
Bob

thanks for making this, had you made one of these before it was suggested
great vid

I made one of those a few years ago and, like yourself, was having a wee play when I had finished it. My (then) 19 year old daughter walked into the shop and I haven’t seen it since… but I’ve made a lot for her friends too. The old toys are still the best.
Best Wishes, Brendan.
