Pagan friend wants expensive gift - herb chest - I can make it cheaper, but how?
I have a pagan friend who needs some herb storage boxes, and he looked for some online, but the ones he found were REALLY expensive. So since he knows I’m into a lot of crafts, he asked me if he thought I could make a couple (or three our four) for the price of one of the expensive boxes.
The trouble is, I have only a little experience with woodworking. My dad’s got the basics in the garage - saw, clamps, nails and a hammer - just no wood to speak of. But I almost think that I could maybe use glue or buy nails that were better suited to working with something so small.
Anyway, here’s what he was looking at, so you can get an idea;

We’re not interested in reproducing the decorations on the boxes, just the boxes themselves. I’d appreciate any instructions, tips or links to articles or anything else helpful. Thanks so much for reading this!
Forgot to add - what type of materials would I need? About how much would they cost? How about wood glue? And what would I need to seal the wood? or can I buy pre-sealed/treated wood for a decent price?

Actually, I don’t see where these boxes would be all that great to store herbs in; personally, I would much rather use glass canning jars. Be that as it may, construction of a basic box is not difficult, and any home depot or lowe’s clerk can answer your questions. use food-grade glue since you want to store herbs; you can use a wax finish which isn’t difficult. Here’s a video to show you the process. Best wishes!
