just so you know, one in three people die during their first year of woodshop classes. FYI

Just remember to always use a wide block to push wood into a saw. That way, if the saw cuts unexpectedly fast, the block will go into the saw, instead of your hand.

Other than that, make sure not to wear loose clothing, long hair, or necklaces, and always wear eye protection.

Your teacher should teach the class proper safety techniques before anyone ever touches the equipment and/or tools. So, if you listen closely and pay attention to what you’re doing, you will do great.

P.S., Remember to always wear safety goggles to protect your eyes when using woodworking equipment or any hazardous chemicals. It sounds really morbid, but I would rather lose a finger than lose an eye!

Wood working tools and machines should scare you. That helps you to give them the respect needed to prevent injury. Your instructor will give you instruction in how to do things safely. I have been doing woodworking for over 50 years. I have had only semi-serious injury and that was when I took a short cut and didn’t follow the safety rules.
