Any tips on spray-painting?
It’s for my woodworking class. I’m supposed to spray paint a wooden jewelry box. Some tips would be greatly appreciated. =]

hello.firstly,is the spray a clear laquer ?,in which case you must rub down the box & dust off thoroughly first.and must rub down using a fine sandpaper inbetween coats to provide a key, and provide a shinier, smoother finish.the more coats the better results.please use a mask always.
READ the directions on the can (unless you are using a compressor and a sprayer.
Surface preparations is key to a good finish. Your paint will not fill and cracks or holes. It will show any rough spots. Even dust will show, so make sure you use a good tack cloth before you spray and between coats.
Before you paint what you want painted I recommend that you “practice” on a piece of scrap. You need to ascertain the proper distance from spray nozzle (can or sprayer) to the object being sprayed. Too far and it doesn’t cover, too close and it puddles. Move the nozzle back and forth across the object being sprayed until a uniform coating of paint. Be careful not to over spray. Several thin coats are much better than fewer thick coats.
The sprayer should be moving whenever paint is coming out of it. If you hold the spray on one spot for any length of time, even 1/10 second, you will get puddling and drips. Multiple thin coats is better than one heavy coat. Allow adequate drying time between coats.
I agree with evo 1971.
